Dear , thanks for your interest in Afaranwide.

Cromlix hotelNext week we’re launching two new strands on the blog – Food and Hotels. We're starting our food coverage with a post about having lunch at the hotel in Scotland owned by tennis star Andy Murray. Triple grand slam winner Murray returns to Wimbledon next week to compete in the doubles after undergoing hip surgery.

Burj Al ArabOur hotels coverage wil start with a post about one of the most iconic places you can stay anywhere in the world, Dubai’s super-luxurious sail-shaped Burj Al Arab. We report on two stays there. The first time Sue and I were whisked from the airport to the hotel in a Rolls-Royce with a uniformed chauffeur who handed us a “music menu” so we could choose what tunes we listened to on the way.

Sue in Burj Al Arab bedroomBy the time we checked in again we were living in Dubai just a couple of blocks away from the Burj, so we walked there, hauling our suitcases across a sandy vacant lot on the way. The security guards were perplexed when we arrived on foot, and we like to think we were the first and only guests to turn up that way. Going forward, we’ll be featuring other memorable hotels we’ve stayed at, and writing about new ones we discover.

Blogging post10 Things We Learned Making Our Website: We're loving the positive reaction to our guide to building a website from scratch. Ines Fischelmayer, an expert in lifestyle coaching, commented on LinkedIn: “This is indeed an insightful guide for those who want to start a blog... It is most certainly going to inspire a few of all the many who wish they had a blog but who are held back by their beliefs about technology." Thank you Ines. Read her full comments here.

Jeddah sculptureJeddah’s Amazing Giant Sculptures: Yesterday we published a post about the spectacular monumental sculptures in the Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah. Giant works by the likes of Joan Miró and Henry Moore started appearing along the Corniche overlooking the Red Sea in the 1970s. Eventually the collection grew to 400 works, and around 20 of the finest have been gathered together at a scuplture park.
