Dear , thanks for your interest in Afaranwide.
Next Thursday is India's Independence Day, and to mark it we're having a special India Week, with new posts published each day from Monday to Friday. We'll be writing about the Taj Mahal and Agra, the capital Delhi, the pink city of Jaipur, and Shimla in the Himalayan foothills. We'll also write about our experiences travelling with the storied but financially troubled company Cox & Kings.
Afaranwide reaches 50 with cricket post: The insider's guide to Lord's cricket ground and Marylebone Cricket Club that we published this week was our 50th. We launched just over three months ago with just 16 posts, so we've been pretty busy! Lord's will be the focus of everyone who loves cricket next week as the second Ashes Test gets underway. In our post, Colin goes behind the scenes and describes what it's like to to spend 20 years on the MCC waiting list before becoming a member!
Excitement is growing ahead of the release next year of the sequel to Top Gun – but did you know China had its own air ace? His name is Wang Hai, and he's credited with shooting down or hitting nine US planes during the Korean War. His MiG 15 fighter, above, is one of the fascinating exhibits at Beijing's military museum, which has just reopened after a seven-year refurbishment programme. Read about it here.
